A little over twenty years ago I was living in Birmingham, working at Samford University. One day I was thinking about a course that I would soon teach at Beeson Divinity School on “Last Things” – all the things that are supposed to happen at the end of human history, like the final resurrection, the last judgment, and heaven and hell. I decided to pick up my New Testament and scan it for references to eschatological themes. Before I knew it, I had worked through all twenty-seven books and in the process made a startling discovery: every book in the New Testament (except 3 John) has at least something to say about the end of time, and many of them are chock-full of rich teachings.
In today’s message on Heaven, I want us to explore some of these great biblical passages as we ask and seek to answer three big questions: Is Heaven real? What’s it like? What will we do there? Continue reading
